Prevention

At the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center, we believe prevention is possible. It is foundational to our agency and central to our mission to end gender-based violence. All prevention efforts are research-informed, evidence-based, and culturally relevant, designed to meet the needs of Monterey County’s diverse communities. Using a public health approach, we promote protective factors that reduce the risk of sexual violence.

Services

MCRCC provides age-appropriate prevention education to students from kindergarten through high school and college.

The Child Abuse Prevention Program

(CAPP) brings safety information to students at least three times throughout their K-6th education journey. Students learn about safe touches, trusted adults, and boundary setting.

High School

In high school, students can elect to be part of our high school club, Our Voice, to address harmful behaviors and see themselves as leaders in making their campus and communities safer.

CSUMB

At CSUMB, prevention programs are facilitated by our Campus Advocate, who offers various services to higher education institutions.

On campuses includes advocacy as primary or secondary prevention. We offer advocacy and support for students affected by sexual harassment, sexual assault, child abuse, or commercial sexual exploitation. We also offer training to teachers and school administration who are interested in strengthening their knowledge and skills in preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors in their schools.
