The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) was founded in 1973 as a response to growing outrage and concern over violence women experienced, and continue to experience, in both private and public life. Since its establishment, it has been MCRCC’s mission to advocate for all victims and survivors of sexual assault and child sexual abuse, to prevent sexual violence in our community through education, and to provide ongoing support and healing to survivors of sexual assault.

Throughout its 43 year history, MCRCC has strived to fulfill its vision that all individuals in Monterey County treat each other with respect and feel empowered to make safe, healthy choices towards ending sexual violence. Part of that vision has been to create space for dialogue and discussion about sexual violence, child abuse, and sexism. MCRCC has strived to create such spaces in schools, colleges, police departments, jails and prisons, private industry, and in all our collaborative partnerships.

MCRCC is now creating space for dialogue and discussion about sexual violence here on this website, on this blog, and for this community. This blog is a space for MCRCC - an organization made of people who share a common vision of a community free from violence - to engage with the community it serves. This blog is a space for those individuals to share their thoughts, feelings, ideas, hopes, and dreams in the fulfillment of a community free from sexual violence.

It is my hope that MCRCC staff, volunteers, board members, supporters, collaborators, and community members use this blog as a vehicle to promote the movement to end sexual violence in all spaces that we occupy. Let our voices that speak out against sexual violence, child abuse, and sexism reach into the far corners of the internet and beyond!

MCRCC welcomes contributions to this blog. To submit discussion ideas, please send an email to Outreach Coordinator Elizabeth Chamberlain at eschamberlain@mtryrapecrisis.org.
