The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to advocate for all victims and survivors of sexual assault and child sexual abuse, to prevent sexual violence in our community through education, and to provide ongoing support and healing to survivors of sexual assault.

Eligibility & Commitment

- Applicants must have an interest in assisting sexual assault survivors and significant others.

- Applicants must be 18 years of age.

- Sexual assault survivors must be emotionally ready to assist other survivors and be no less than a year past their own assault/abuse experience.

- Past or present perpetrators of sexual or physical abuse and/or any violent crime are not eligible to participate in Sexual Assault Counselor Training.

- Applicants must give consent for and understand that MRCC will require Livescan fingerprinting.

- Applicants with a history of chemical dependency must have been clean and sober for at least 1 year prior to training.

- Applicants must be able to attend all training sessions.

- Applicants must be able to attend monthly in-service meetings (typically the 1st Tuesday of the month).

- Applicants must commit to 6 months of volunteering

- Applicants must be willing/able to work with diverse populations (cultural, racial, socioeconomic, religious, sexual orientation, etc.)

MRCC reserves the right to refuse enrollment to anyone whom they feel is not suitable for the program. Participation in training does not guarantee certification as a sexual assault counselor, nor does it guarantee a volunteer assignment.

Both a written application and an interview are required. Applicants selected should plan to attend all training sessions. Any scheduled conflicts must be discussed with the Client Services Director prior to beginning the training.

Becoming a Board Member:

We are looking for a few dynamic individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. Interested applicants must share the agency philosophy of victim empowerment, be willing to serve on two standing committees and attend Board meetings the second Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Monterey. The standing committees include Finance, Fundraising, Nominating, Personnel, Planning and Public Relations.

Board members are expected to support the agency financially in an amount that is meaningful to him or her in response to annual solicitations. Board members must attend at least one to three sessions of the 12-session crisis line training (held two to three times each year), attend advocate graduations, board retreats and special events.

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center is especially interested in recruiting individuals who want to get involved in fundraising activities and to lend their energy, enthusiasm and expertise to making MRCC's mission successful. We are looking for diversity in ethnicity, gender, income level, age, occupations and professions.
