September 22, 2008 Benefit Premiere

MCRCC Boyhood Shadows Poster

MCRCC partnered with Terrie De Bono and Steven Rosen to produce a groundbreaking documentay entitled “Boyhood Shadows: I swore I’d never tell”, the documentary reveals Glenn’s story that began as a young boy under the power of a sexual predator. The narrative chronicles Glenn’s struggle as he tries to make sense of his life, telling no one. After suffering decades of addiction, Glenn breaks the silence describing his past…funny, poignant, and sad.

Glenn’story is interspersed with those of twenty other boys-turned-men, many from MCRCC’s men’s support group. Their stories are all different, but, unfortunately, all the same. One in six boys is sexually molested by the age of 16.

After just over a year of working on it, MCRCC is proud to announce that the documentary on male sexual abuse that the agency has been associated with is now complete.

The premiere was held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Steinbeck Forum at the Monterey Conference Center.

A special website to promote the film has been developed.

OTHER ANNUAL EVENTS

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
All throughout April, the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center works to raise awareness within the community about issues of sexual violence. This past April we joined national efforts to Decide to End Sexual Violence in a variety of events including:

April
Denim Day California

The Denim Day campaign was part of an international protest of an Italian High Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans. The Italian Supreme Court overturned a conviction against a 45-year-old suspect because his 18-year-old victim was wearing jeans at the time of the attack. The Court stated in its decision that, "It is common knowledge...that jeans cannot even be partly removed without effective help of the person wearing them...and it is impossible if the victim is struggling with all her might." The judgment sparked a worldwide outcry from those who understand that coercion, threats and violence go
hand-in-hand with the act of rape. The verdict became an international symbol of myth-based injustice for sexual assault victims. As part of Denim Day, the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center will coordinate with local businesses and cafes to spread the word about sexual violence within our community.

August
Automobilia Monterey

Once again, the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center is the beneficiary organization for Automobilia Monterey. The expo occurs during Concours and Vintage Race week and features outstanding automotive memorabilia from the finest International dealers in a relaxed indoor setting.
